about

Finally, a refreshing voice emerges from the cloud of jarring sounds that defines "Counterculture Retro" ----> this voice belongs to a lost, perverted soul who is unafraid of 90's chord progressions and trite vocal melodies. The conception of Mud Scholar makes for a truly inspirational story. A boy, afflicted by a chore-intensive upbringing in suburban Atlanta, picked up a guitar, and sang the word, "dick" repeatedly, in true Seattle-fashion. From then on, his authoritative grasp of middle-school humor, paired with his love for mainstream-music-that-is-labeled-alternative-music, propelled him into a paradoxical state of arrogant self-loathing. Now, he writes music that he will inevitably hate after it is recorded. He does not buckle under the weight of self-criticism. On the contrary, he continues down a path that he is sure will lead to a lucrative career in mediocre musicianship. Mud Scholar is the future. Sorry.
